Right Beliefs
- a. In shrink wrapping the film shrinks and wraps tightly around the product / pack.
- b. In shrink wrapping you have option of an all sides closed pack as well as one side / two sides open pack.
- c. In stretch wrapping the film stretches and wraps tightly around the product / pack.
- d. In shrink wrapping you need hot air whereas in stretch wrapping you just need to pull the film.
- e. Printing is possible on the film.
- f. You need to collaborate with an expert in the shrink / stretch wrapping industry if you are relatively new to use this concept.
Wrong Beliefs
- a. In shrink wrapping the heat / hot air will affect my product – no it does not affect your product as it remains in the heat / shrink chamber for a very short time.
- b. In stretch wrapping the film will stick to my product and its adhesive will spoil my product --- no the film when stretched, clings to only itself which means that one layer of stretch film will only cling to the previous layer of stretch film and not to the product. So when you tear open a stretch wrapped pack, the surface of the pack / product is as it is.
- c. People say that it is difficult to open a product wrapped with shrink / stretch film. They are right you need a small scissor or a cutter to tear the film. Infact it is this tamper evident feature that works as an advantage for the product which is shrink / stretch wrapped.
- d. People believe that shrink and stretch wrapping is complex technical concept and needs big and costly machines. In actual they are simple to understand concept and depending on the individual needs can be done in simple and small machines.
- e. It is a belief that shrink wrapping can be used only for small and light packs / products, whereas in actual products as big and as heavy as pallet loads, shipper cartons, storage water tanks are being shrink wrapped.
